PARADISE CLOSE By

WEEKAPAUG INN, RI

New England Vacation

I have a tradition in my house. Every year I surprise my husband with a gateway trip for his birthday. It works out extra well for me because not only do I get to spend the extra time with him. At the same time, it’s also a nice way to satisfy my wanderlust and desire for adventure! Because of our busy schedules this year I had to keep the surprise close to home. As a result, a New England vacation, but didn’t want our time away to feel like any less of an escape. I was on the hunt for the right blend of luxury with a cozy atmosphere.

I immediately thought of the beautiful Weekapaug Inn in Rhode Island – a hidden gem conveniently reachable in under three hours from New York, less than two from Boston. The inn provides a convenient coastal getaway, prime for celebrating and unplugging from the chaos of everyday life. The Weekapaug Inn sits on the west side of Quonochontaug Pond, adjacent to the quiet, charming beach town of Weekapaug.

The hotel is also within walking distance of a long stretch of unspoiled beach along the Atlantic.

Accommodation

This beacon of New England charm offers a surprising 27 bedrooms, plus four two-bedroom signature suites. The property has managed to retain the intimacy and timeless grace of the original inn, built in 1899, while incorporating a crisp, clean aesthetic. The result looks primed for the centerfold of an architecture and design magazine.

You’ll find everything you might expect from a 5-Star hotel and member of Relais & Chateaux, which means there’s always that extra something that goes above and beyond. The inn not only offers free bikes for exploring the neighborhood of upscale beach homes, but also the knowledge and guidance of a resident naturalist. There are boats and crabbing gear for use on the large salt pond, which lies just feet from the hotel. It’s also, perfect for stargazing on a beautiful night!
